Week 3 Job Seeking

Technology is not only changing the way we shop, connect with people, and search for information. The web has a huge impact on how we look at the job market. In 2008 the United States entered a tipping point called The Great Recession. During this period people lost their homes, and jobs putting people in the streets and making it harder for people to find employment. This event changed amount of time that people spend in their jobs.

In the book What Color is your Parachute they point out the only 69% of people between the ages of 18-24 last less than a year, 93% last less than five years. Now what about the ages of 40-48? Well 32% only last than a year and 69% less than five years. With less people being able to stay at a job for long periods of time this increases the amount of unemployment. Since the amount of people searching for a job has increased we must move the job hunting online. There is roughly 13% of Americans that have not turned to the internet capping their opportunities on finding employment. There are millions of site that can help you up load a resume and get you on your way, but first thing first, learn how to operate a computer.

A great way to make an impression for any job interview is to know the language they speak. I don't mean dialect but the material you are going to talk to them about. Most employers are going to tell you that you are not the right fit but why is that?

Well mostly because you do not have the "seeked" amount of experience they are looking for. Researching the company, knowing what they do and an idea of how they operate is a great way to start. It's all not bad news, people get hired not only on how well one can get the job done but on how well you know on how to get hired. The book What Color is your Parachute is a great read for anyone stuck in the job hunting process. With the tips and examples the book creates you are on your way to finding not only work but meaningful work.
